Activities To Do In Papamoa

Are you looking for activities to do in Papamoa? Here are some recommendations from our Mount Maunganui Tauranga chiropractor.

Getting Outside

Just outside Papamoa there is a roundabout headed off to Te Puke. Taking the second exit towards Welcome Bay the road takes you off into the foot hills of Papamoa. Not far along this road there is a left that almost immediately becomes very steep. Up the top of this hill there are a few fun things to do for a keen golfer or avid mountain bike rider.

Way up on the Papamoa hills is an estate called the Summerset Hills Estate. Its a grand name for a very informal, relaxed golf club. Every way you turn the view captivate, either back up to wards Welcome Bay or out towards Mt Maunganui. The scale and growth of Papamoa is clear to see as the houses continue to reach out along the East Coast.

The golf course has nine holes that work their way around a few houses dotted up on the hill. The green fee’s are paid by a voluntary box beside the 1st tee. Its a mistake not to bring a full pic nic just to soak up the views. The challenge of this course is to focus on the golf rather than the view!

Close to the golf club there is a car park that sits on a ridge. This is a launch pad for some exillerating mountain bike riding. The surrounding hills are packed with trails for all abilities but be aware the trails are shared with walkers!!!!

Back down the road you must find a hidden gem, The Rerekawau Falls. Set amongst stunning native bush, these falls are a must on a hot summers day. There is a popular walking loop track not far from the falls, just 15 minutes from Papamoa down the Waitao road then onto Kaitate Falls Road.

Places to Eat

Back in Papamoa every Thursday evening, down at the domain there is a gathering not to be missed. It is called Dinner in the Domain. Set amongst the long-standing towering trees right above the surf club is a grassy knoll that hosts an array of food trucks, a bar, a band, face painting and pony riding for the kids. Its an evening to savor in an idyllic spot. The food trucks and stalls vary from Asian dumplings and Indian street food to burgers and wood-fired pizza. Churroz or real fruit ice cream just some of the dessert options. The atmosphere is always good with easy listening from a local musician, rug and blankets come out as the summer sun gives way to chillier nights.
