Top Places For Going Out In Mount Maunganui
The Mount as it is favorably known has many bars and restaurants. There are microbreweries selling vast choices of craft beer, neat little courtyard bars, standard drinking pubs and more modern fusion. There is something for everyone, covering all tastes and all budgets. Here are some recommendations from our Mount Maunganui Tauranga chiropractor.
Cheap Eats
Starting off with the more student/backpacker vibe there are some great bars. Astrolabe offers great ambiance and quirky decoration, a standard bar menu of burgers and pizza, they do cocktails and always have a happy hour or some promotion on. Just over the road is Brew Bar open late and will have the tunes cranked up til the early hours.
Cheap eat options include the usual fast food establishments plus a Mexican called Mexicali, quite often they will offer a meal deal for $10. During the summer months the area of grass called Coronation Park, hosts an army of food trucks on a Friday night. It's a fun family night of food, music and good times!
Casual Dining
For the middle of the road budget, $100 budget for 2 there are some great spots to visit. Fish Face is a seafood restaurant on the Mt main drag, that spills out onto the pavement in the summer. They have a good menu and great service, a family run business that keeps giving.
Up towards the roundabout there is a pizza restaurant called The Pizza Library. Their pizza’s are good, but the ultimate is to drop in here on your stumble home for a cheeky cocktail. The bar staff are well informed and it's a fun atmosphere, the deep red velvet gives and air of elegance.
Just over the roundabout another establishment of good stature, the Mt Social Club. An older clientele come in here and there is an air of South America. Cocktails flow and most weekends a DJ will be slamming on the tunes, bringing the house down. A fun bar. Another bar on a similar budget is Hide bar. This is the Mount’s most boutique bar. Set back off the main drag you walk down an alley that then opens up to a courtyard. Table seating round all sides of the courtyard, with a big fire pit at one end. There is a retractable aweing to protect against poor weather and on the far side of the courtyard is the bar. There is more seating inside, but this is an outdoor bar. Pizza, smorguess boards, seafood platters, an array of sharing plates to cater to all tastes, this really is a great meeting place for Sunday afternoon.
Finer Dining
Now to the top end of the market, we have several options. Post Bank comes straight to mind. Wonderful setting, you feel like you're walking into someone’s living room. This is gourmet with an extended wine list and exquisite food. A destination restaurant for a special occasion. You will need to book in order not to disappoint. Up the road we have Fire. A new addition to the Mount scene. They offer a fusion menu of Asian. The decor is modern and service generally to a high standard. The restaurant backs on to the new market site in the heart of the Mount. It's a popular destination for high rollers on a Friday and Saturday night.
Finally, we have Fife, Bar and Kitchen. Interestingly located way down Maunganui Road on Central Parade. A steakhouse, with a flexible menu to cater for those who do not want a slab of meat. Amazing decoration, this could be an institution if they play their cards right, it's too early to tell as it only opened December 2019.
