Top Places for Golfing in Mount Maunganui

When it comes to golf, you are spoilt for choice in Mt Manuganui. In Tauranga and the Mt combined there are 6 golf courses. Let us for a minute just focus on the golf in the Mount. Here are the golf courses that you should visit by recommendation of our Mount Maunganui Tauranga chiropractor.

Mt Manunganui Golf Club

Established in 1935 the course was thought to engage a links challenge next to the dunes of Mount Maunganui. With a residence of 450 people the course started out as 9 holes and over time grew to a world class 18 hole club.

The setting is like no other. On all sides the course is lined with houses, their gardens backing on to the golf course, some don't even have fences. Other houses boast wee garages that back onto the course, so that ones buggey can be driven straight out!

The course itself is exciting to play. The holes vary and there is no flat fairway. With so much undeulation it is a challenge to get the tee shot in the ideal lay up. Another twist to this course is that it is very narrow. Trees mostly line the fairways so there is not so much a chance of loosing your ball because the rough is so dense, more a challenge to get back on to the hole if wayard from the tee.

Most of the greens are defended by bunkers that are kept to a high standard and the greens are always quick.

The 19th hole or clubhouse has a grand feel to it. It is situated overlooking the 18th green but you can also see down the 12th fairway so plenty to entertain as one drinks a nice cold beer.

Omanu Golf Club

Just 5 minutes down the road is another establishment called Omanu Golf Club. It is a very busy club with a strong social side… Established in 1971, from reclaimed parkland, the course is situated beside state highway 2 and the Tauranga airport. Planes literally land right next to the 17th hole. This is a flatter course with managed rough, which means that the course is suited for all levels of golf to enjoy. The holes interlock and meet back at the clubhouse on holes 9 as well as 18. A thoroughly fun course that is well maintained.

Relaxing After Golf

Just down the road from this golf club is the Bayfair Shopping Centre. Here you can find an array of restaurants and shops, for those who do not want to play golf, or simply to relax after a successful day out on the course.
